Forgotten Anime Classics Worth a Second Watch

The story follows Kazuki Muto, who dies one night trying to save a girl from a monster known as a Homunculus. The girl, Tokiko, an alchemical warrior, feels guilty for his death and replaces his destroyed heart with a kakugane, an alchemical device that gives him the power to form his own weapon capable of defeating the Homunculi. From there, Kazuki and Tokiko team up to fight these monsters and protect the people they care about.

Recca Hanabishi is a teenage boy who has always been obsessed with ninjas. His journey begins when he stumbles into a world of real ninja clans and tournament battles centered around supernatural weapons called “madougu,” which grant their users special abilities. The story really takes off once Recca discovers he can control fire. He builds a team around himself, faces rivals with their own elemental powers, and takes part in one of anime’s most memorable tournament arcs.

Kousuke Ueki is a middle school student chosen by a celestial being to compete in a tournament where each contestant has been granted a unique power by their respective god candidate. From there, he must fight against other chosen candidates to decide who will become the next king of the celestial world. Every candidate fights with a completely different ability. No two fights feel the same, and that variety keeps the anime entertaining. Genuinely one of the most underrated shows of its era.
